Welcome to the Count & Countess de Hoernle South County Service Center Web Page ___________________________________________________________
The Count & Countess de Hoernle South County Service Center, located on North Federal Highway in Boca Raton, was originally provided to the American Red Cross, Greater Palm Beach Area Chapter by the Count and Countess de Hoernle and other generous donors in the early nineties. The building underwent major renovations in 2008 in order to better meet the needs of South Palm Beach’s growing community, as well as serve as a back-up Operations Center to Chapter Headquarters in West Palm Beach in times of a disaster.
The Service Center has the ability to service over 250,000 South County residents from Hypoluxo Road all the way south to Boca Raton and has approximately 200+ volunteers donating their time and energy in various capacities, including responding to local house fires/disasters by serving on the Disaster Action Team (DAT), teaching life-saving health & safety training classes (CPR, First Aid, etc), coordinating large events such as the South County Annual Gala, as well as Third Party events, delivering speaking engagements at local community events/fairs on a variety of topics such as fire safety, hurricane preparedness, pandemic flu, etc. and more!

Countess Henrietta de Hoernle Donates $20,000 to Red Cross
BOCA RATON, Fla. (December 15, 2009) — Countess Henrietta de Hoernle, Lifetime Director of the American Red Cross Greater Palm Beach Area Chapter, donated $20,000 to the South County Service Center at the organization’s annual Holiday Open House. The money will go toward the Red Cross building in Boca Raton which bares the Countess’ name. Allocated toward the building’s Veterans office, which is instrumental in allowing the Red Cross to provide financial assistance, counseling and support to Vets, the funding will help improve Red Cross Service to Armed Forces in southern Palm Beach County.
Tracy Sussman, Branch Manager of the South County Service Center, said “We’re extremely thankful for this generous donation from the Countess as she continues to support our humanitarian mission.” She added, “We’re happy to name our Veterans office in honor of her support.” Sussman said several naming opportunities still exist in the state-of-the art facility, available at a range of donor levels.
The building, located at 5820 North Federal Highway in Boca Raton, and aptly named the Count and Countess de Hoernle South County Service Center, was renovated in 2008. Renovations increased overall office space, training room capacity, and storage and supply staging areas. The facility now serves as a back-up Operations Center to the Greater Palm Beach Area Chapter of the Red Cross’ Headquarters in West Palm Beach in times of disaster.
Countess de Hoernle helped the Chapter purchase and later renovate the building in 1993. She is a major financial supporter of the local Red Cross, giving over one million dollars to the Greater Palm Beach Area Chapter in her lifetime. The Countess has also been generous of her time to the organization, serving on the South County Service Center’s Advisory Committee for several years.
Countess de Hoernle wrote a touching poem that reflects her feelings toward the organization as well as her passion for helping others:
The more you give, the more you get The more you do unselfishly The more you live abundantly The more of everything you share For only what we give away Enriches us from day to day So, give to the Red Cross so they can help others who are in distress
Countess de Hoernle was born in Karlsruhe, in the Black Forest in Germany. She moved to the U.S. in 1931 when she met her future husband, Count Adolph de Hoernle, in New York City. Count de Hoernle, also from the Black Forest in Germany, had a bloodline dating back to the 1200’s and he was the founder of the Stewart Stamping Company in Yonkers, NY. The Count and Countess devoted their lives to helping those in distress, living by their personal mantra, “Give while you live, and know where it goes.”
