Congressman Ron Klein Visits Red Cross Service Center

Boca Raton, Fla. (August 19, 2010) — Congressman Ron Klein visited the American Red Cross South County Service Center Thursday morning to meet with Palm Beaches -Treasure Coast CEO Rob Levine and Chapter Chairman Jim Bronstien. Rep. Klein toured the 7,500 square foot facility located in Boca Raton and was briefed on the life-saving programs and services the Red Cross offers the community to help people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies. Bronstien also presented Congressman Klein with an honorary “Services to the Armed Forces” chapter pin for his dedication to working with veterans who have served our country and their families.

"We are honored that Congressman Klein took the time to visit our Count & Countess de Hoernle South County Service Center and meet with our staff," said Chapter Chairman Jim Bronstien. He added, "Rep. Klein is a good friend of the American Red Cross and we had a very productive discussion on how together we can meet the needs of all our communities."

Rep. Klein discussed the importance of continuing to prioritize Service to Armed Forces with Red Cross staff and volunteers. In 2009, the Greater Palm Beach Area Chapter sent 250 emergency communication messages linking members of the U.S. Armed Forces and their families during a crisis.  Twenty-four hours a day, 365 days a year, the Red Cross can quickly send emergency communications to deployed service members on behalf of their family members.  Additionally, the local chapter shared its “Get to Know Us Before You Need Us” program with 495 departing service members and their families last year. The South County Service Center building recently underwent renovations to include a designated office for providing assistance to Veterans.

American Red Cross

The American Red Cross Greater Palm Beach Area Chapter hosted Future Leadership Boca students Wednesday, July 14th at the South County Service Center in Boca Raton. The 14-year-old students learned about the many Red Cross Services in their community such as life-saving CPR training, local and national disaster relief with a focus on understanding how the organization helps their neighbors, often in the face of disaster, as well as the programs which support members of our military stationed overseas.

Future Leadership Boca is a Palm Beach State College Youth program, modeled after the Boca Chamber’s adult program Leadership Boca, and is designed to educate students about the issues and concerns affecting our local community and helps prepare them to assume future leadership roles.
